Rambo Makes Best Films List
Sylvester Stallone's return to one of his signature roles wasn't horror, of course, but Rambo is a film no genre fan can afford to ignore...
High praise indeed! - Craig

A little over a year ago, I was contacted by Jake Kalish. He said that he was writing a book about imaginary fights and was looking for expert opinions. Jake wanted me to weigh in on the Rocky vs Rambo fight. So I did. Jake recently contacted me to let me know that a copy of the book, Santa vs Satan: The Official Compendium of Imaginary Fights would be coming my way and that a link to the StalloneZone was printed along with my commentary. Here's how I saw the fight:Labels: 2008, Rambo, Rocky Balboa
On January 23, 2008, Cole Haddon profiled Sly and his work on bringing Rocky and Rambo back to the big screen. In the piece Sly talks about his debate with Quentin Tarantino in regard to the artistic choice to not kill off Rambo, how vanity got in the way of earlier movies, and how age has added a certain weight and responsibility to Rocky and Rambo. The piece is definitely worth a look. - CraigLabels: 2008, Rambo, Rocky Balboa

Fresh from a movie about saving Christian missionaries from a sadistic Myanmar army major, 'Rambo' actor Sylvester Stallone on Wednesday accused the former Burma's junta of indifference to their citizen's cyclone misery.
Nearly 22,500 people have been killed and 41,000 are still missing after Cyclone Nargis ripped through Myanmar's Irrawaddy delta, washing away entire villages and rendering at least one million people homeless.
Stallone, speaking in Tokyo where he was promoting his latest Rambo movie, said the Myanmar government was clearly unprepared.
"Just recently, with this horrible cyclone, we see how these people were unprepared and are being treated terribly, suffering because of the indifference of the government," he told a news conference.
But he sounded an optimistic note on the potential for change in the country because of the global spotlight on the disaster.
"I think what's going to come out of this devastating cyclone, and the fact that our film has made it much more apparent of the violence that these people live under, I think there's going to be great social change in that country because they can't hide any more."
In his latest film , 61-year-old Stallone again plays the machinegun-toting Vietnam War veteran John Rambo, this time coming out of retirement in Thailand to save a group of Christian missionaries from the clutches of a Myanmar army major.
Entitled simply "Rambo," the movie is banned in Myanmar, but it has been become hot property in the country's underground DVD scene.
Stallone said he had wanted to highlight the impoverished country's problems when he set out, well ahead of protests there last September, to make the fourth movie in the Rambo series.
"It ... is a film that's opening up people's eyes to the sufferings of these poor people in another part of the world, which I think is very important for America to understand that there's a lot going on outside of our borders."
Hollywood actors, including Stallone and Will Ferrell, have recently joined a video campaign to win support for jailed Myanmar democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

Reports have been circulating over the internet that Sly not only plans to bring Rambo back for another film, but also intends to take him into a new genre. According to an interview in BreakingNews.ie, a newspaper in Sweden, Sly said, "I would like to take Rambo to another genre, experiment a little with the character... It would definitely not be another war movie. I can't go any further with that than what I've already done. What it's going to be like, I'm not going to reveal at this point. But I'm already halfway though writing the manuscript." Labels: 2008, Cobra, Cop Land, Judge Dredd, Rambo
David Morrell is the best selling author who created the character of Rambo in his novel First Blood. Although it was never his intent for Rambo to live past that tale, Mr. Morrell was involved with the production and wrote novelizations for Rambo II and Rambo III. In between and after Mr. Morrell went on to write many more excellent novels in several genres. He is definitely not a one trick pony. So I was disappointed when I learned that he wouldn't be involved in the production of "Rambo."
