Rourke Credits Sly

Mickey Rourke, who is flying high now with universally great reviews for his performance in "The Wrestler," went through a long period when he couldn't get movie work. In an interview with BlackBook.com, Rourke credits Sly with giving him a helping hand back into the business:
Stallone saw me in a restaurant eating one night, where I could hardly pay for my ******* spaghetti, and put me in Get Carter.”

Sly & Other Stars Offer Help to Myanmar

Erik Pedersen
Thu May 15, 2:05 AM ET

In the wake of the horrifying cyclone that hit Myanmar, which is estimated to have killed between 100,000 and 200,000 people and displaced as many as 1.5 million more, celebrities have responded in different ways.

Ben Stiller, Téa Leoni, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden have recorded PSAs for UNICEF, while Not on Our Watch, the nonprofit cofounded by George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Don Cheadle, Matt Damon and others, has already pledged half a million dollars to Save the Children.

Even Sylvester Stallone used a Japanese press conference for the DVD release of the latest Rambo installment, which features the character battling it out in Myanmar, to speak out. "I think what's going to come out of this devastating cyclone—and the fact that our film has made it much more apparent of the violence that these people live under—I think there's going to be great social change in that country, because they can't hide anymore," said the actor, who also showed off his bow-hunting technique.

For more information about how to help, go to UNICEF, the Red Cross, Save the Children, Oxfam or other aid agencies.

Sly Saved Dolly

Dolly Parton says that when she was at the lowest point in her life it was Sylvester Stallone who saved her!

In 1984, prior to filming on "Rhinestone" Dolly learned that she would never be able to have children and it devastated her. Dolly recently told an interviewer for The Globe, "It was an awful time for me... Every day I thought, 'I wish I had the nerve to kill myself." Then Dolly started filming "Rhinestone" with Sly. Dolly still has fond memories of the filming, "Even though the movie didn't do that well, that was one of my greatest projects because Stallone was so full of life and so crazy and funny, and he made me laugh a lot, which was really healthy for me. That got me back on track."

Sly On Muhammad Ali

On Wednesday, Muhammad Ali turned 65. Sly was quoted for an article celebrating the champ and here's what he had to say:

"What makes him the greatest fighter is that he simply had skills that exceeded anyone’s expectations," Sylvester Stallone, who created and starred in the epic "Rocky" films, told Reuters.
Stallone’s Rocky character was based on a 1975 opponent of Ali’s, journeyman Chuck Wepner, a liquor salesman who lost a technical knockout to the champion in the 15th round. "He was the fastest, the best, the most positive and they’ll never see the likes of him ever again," Stallone said of Ali. "Maybe the greatest athlete of all time."

The first features Sly and Brandon Davis in the "Look-Alike of the Week" feature. Both are shown in small photos with the caption: "Should Brandon Davis have played Rocky Balboa's son instead of Milo Ventimiglia?"

The second time Sly appears is in the "Loose Talk: What Stars Said This Week" section. "I have two beautiful daughters... I'd try to get them to watch one of the Rocky movies and they'd go, 'I want to watch SpongeBob Squarepaints.'" - Sylvester Stallone [Craig -- Sly has 3 daughters!]

The third tidbit features a brief profile of Milo Ventimiglia who says that at first producers didn't want him for the role of Rocky's son despite the fact that he looks like Sly! - Craig Zablo
