Sly as "The Wrestler"

Darren Aronofsky, director of the critically acclaimed "The Wrestler" is quoted as saying that Mickey Rourke was not his first choice for the starring role. In fact, Sylvester Stallone was one of his first choices. Aronofsky said, "I was thinking it'd be interesting to see him go back to the ring in some way because he's so good in the ring. Then he did 'Rocky Balboa,' the latest 'Rocky,' and it kinda ruled it out for me because it was about an older guy going back to the ring. There were enough connections there that I didn't want to go near it." You can read the full article here.

While it would have been very cool to see Sly in "The Wrestler," I think that the path he is on now is better. Sly is back to writing, directing and starring in his own projects. Plus, it allowed Mickey Rourke another opportunity to shine. This way fans get to see two actors doing what they do best! - Craig

Statham Praises Sly

Shawn Adler at the MTV Movie Blog caught up with Jason Statham long enough to ask a few questions about "The Expendables." Although Statham couldn't talk too much about the script he did say this: “Sly is someone I grew up watching on TV and on the movies. He’s a living legend. He’s one of the biggest action stars that Hollywood’s ever seen, the whole world’s ever seen. And so the chance for me to come all these years later and be working alongside Sly is just one of those like pinch-yourself moments... Rest assured... it’s going to be a kickass film.” You can read the full report here. - Craig

Sly announced at the American Film Market convention that he hopes to get Academy Award winner, Forrest Whitaker, for the role of a "devious CIA agent" in his next film "The Expendables." Sly already has Jason Statham and Jet Li on board and told the crowd: "Whereas the 'Oceans 11' films were an ensemble for good looking guys, this is an ensemble for ugly tough guys."
