Hervé Attia's First Blood

Dear Mr Zablo,

My name is Herve Attia. I've always been a big fan of First Blood movie since it came out in 1982. So, last month, I went to Hope, Canada, visiting the First Blood filming locations which includes Othello/Coquihalla Provincial park, Lake Pitt river (Coquitlam)...

I made a movie which is composed of two parts posted on YouTube.

Part1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lc7pMuaku1o
Part2:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lc7pMuaku1o

If you like the movie...and think it deserves an entry/post in your web site, don't ask me the permission :) it would be an honor! I've always been a big fan of stallonezone.com.

PS: I had the great privilege having Mr Andrew Laszlo (director of photography) watching the movie. He really enjoyed it. This was definitely my best reward. :)
Sincerely, -Hervé Attia

Sly is Banned in Burma

Hey Craig,

My name is Brittany Harrison, and I was just browsing around your fan page which is awesome – I’m a huge Sylvester fan, too! What's awesome that you already know about his involvement in the Burma: It Can't Wait campaign, as I can see from your postings. I work for a website called Fanista and we've just launched the campaign with the US Campaign for Burma and the Human Rights Action Center.

In case you don't know much about the campaign, Sylvester and other celebrities have graciously done REALLY amazing short film spots for us to speak out against the atrocities enforced by the Burmese military junta (70,000 child soldiers, 2x more villages burned than in Darfur, torture and massacre of monks, systematic rape - and that was before the most recent crime of denying aid to desperate victims of the Myanmar cyclone, resulting in 100,000 deaths). We came up with the idea to get 30 celebrities to be in 30 short films rolling out over the month of May.

Please spread [warning -- graphic content!] this video as far and wide as you can. I think this is a great performance by Sylvester.

Thank you so much! Brittany

Sly's Mom Honored

By hellomagazine.com hellomagazine.com - Thursday, May 22 02:03 pm

Jackie Stallone, the mother of Rocky star Sylvester, has been made a Dame of the Order of St Stanislaus at an elaborate ceremony in Kiev.

Currently visiting her grandparents' native Ukraine, the former trapeze artist turned American astrologer, was presented the medal in recognition of her concern for the wellbeing of others.

During her stay she also visited a children's home in Odessa, where she took the opportunity to underline the importance of hope in the lives of all youngsters.

"A vivid example is my son Sylvester, who was a difficult child," she said frankly. "He seemed a hopeless boy but he has managed to build a proper future."

SZoners @ First Blood Showing

Hey Craig! Had a great time last night with some friends at the First Blood viewing. We took this pic of us, maybe you could post on Sunday's update. We thought it might be fun to pay some respect to John J. I don't think any of us were going for total authenticity, however we did have a lot of fun. People were yelling out lines like it was The Rocky Horror Picture show. By now most of know the film quality was not as sharp as we would have liked. However it was truly great to see First Blood on the screen again. Now lets see if we can't get Rocky back for one night!
All the best to you and my fellow SZoners

Sly & Other Stars Offer Help to Myanmar

Erik Pedersen
Thu May 15, 2:05 AM ET

In the wake of the horrifying cyclone that hit Myanmar, which is estimated to have killed between 100,000 and 200,000 people and displaced as many as 1.5 million more, celebrities have responded in different ways.

Ben Stiller, Téa Leoni, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden have recorded PSAs for UNICEF, while Not on Our Watch, the nonprofit cofounded by George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Don Cheadle, Matt Damon and others, has already pledged half a million dollars to Save the Children.

Even Sylvester Stallone used a Japanese press conference for the DVD release of the latest Rambo installment, which features the character battling it out in Myanmar, to speak out. "I think what's going to come out of this devastating cyclone—and the fact that our film has made it much more apparent of the violence that these people live under—I think there's going to be great social change in that country, because they can't hide anymore," said the actor, who also showed off his bow-hunting technique.

For more information about how to help, go to UNICEF, the Red Cross, Save the Children, Oxfam or other aid agencies.

Sly Slams Myanmar Junta

Wed May 7, 8:54 AM ET

Fresh from a movie about saving Christian missionaries from a sadistic Myanmar army major, 'Rambo' actor Sylvester Stallone on Wednesday accused the former Burma's junta of indifference to their citizen's cyclone misery.

Nearly 22,500 people have been killed and 41,000 are still missing after Cyclone Nargis ripped through Myanmar's Irrawaddy delta, washing away entire villages and rendering at least one million people homeless.

Stallone, speaking in Tokyo where he was promoting his latest Rambo movie, said the Myanmar government was clearly unprepared.

"Just recently, with this horrible cyclone, we see how these people were unprepared and are being treated terribly, suffering because of the indifference of the government," he told a news conference.

But he sounded an optimistic note on the potential for change in the country because of the global spotlight on the disaster.

"I think what's going to come out of this devastating cyclone, and the fact that our film has made it much more apparent of the violence that these people live under, I think there's going to be great social change in that country because they can't hide any more."

In his latest film , 61-year-old Stallone again plays the machinegun-toting Vietnam War veteran John Rambo, this time coming out of retirement in Thailand to save a group of Christian missionaries from the clutches of a Myanmar army major.

Entitled simply "Rambo," the movie is banned in Myanmar, but it has been become hot property in the country's underground DVD scene.

Stallone said he had wanted to highlight the impoverished country's problems when he set out, well ahead of protests there last September, to make the fourth movie in the Rambo series.

"It ... is a film that's opening up people's eyes to the sufferings of these poor people in another part of the world, which I think is very important for America to understand that there's a lot going on outside of our borders."

Hollywood actors, including Stallone and Will Ferrell, have recently joined a video campaign to win support for jailed Myanmar democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

Sly Praises 'Son of Rambow'

So what did Sly think of "Son of Rambow," the story of two youngsters who after seeing "First Blood" decide to take a video camera and remake it?

Sly told the Los Angeles Times that when he first heard about
"Son of Rambow" he "assumed it was going to be a very broad and stylized joke-a-minute comedy at Rambo's expense." After seeing the film Sly said "The fact that it was so heartwarming is the result of brilliant film-making by its creators." High praise indeed! You can read more here and here. - Craig
